In Moscow, preliminary check underway into emergency landing of plane en route from Punta Cana to Moscow

The Moscow Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee has launched a preliminary check into today’s media reports about an emergency landing of a Boeing 777 airliner flying from Punta Cana (the Dominican Republic) to Moscow (Domodedovo airport).

According to preliminary data, the Boeing 777 took off from the airport of Punta Cana at 1:47 AM, Moscow time. After taking off and steadily climbing to echelon 200, there was a clap in the left engine followed by a fire. The crew decided to get back to the airport of departure. After that, at 2:27 AM, Moscow time, the plane safely landed at the airport of Punta Cana. It had aboard 20 crewmembers and 355 passengers, nobody of them got hurt.

At present, investigators are running necessary checks to find out all the details of and reasons for the incident.

A procedural decision will be made following the check.
