In Leningrad Region, probe launched into negligent murder of two-month-old baby due to negligence of medical personnel

The Leningrad Region authorities of the Investigative Committee have opened an investigation into a crime under part 2of article 109 of the RF Penal Code (negligent murder owing to the improper discharge by a person of his professional duties) after the death of a two-month-old baby in an ambulance van.

According to the investigation, on 7 January 2016, baby’s parents called for medical help as the baby was not feeling good. However, after examining the baby, a doctor saw no reasons to take the baby into hospital. The next day, the baby got worse and the parents called an ambulance again. The baby died in the ambulance van on the way to the pediatric department of the Kirovsk Inter-District Hospital of Leningrad Region.

Investigators think that the fact that the doctor underrated the baby’s health problems during his first visit, did not take the baby to hospital and prescribed medicines too late is in cause-and-effect relation with the death of the baby owing to negligence of medical personnel.

At present, investigative activities are underway to find out all the details of the incident and identify the persons guilty of the baby’s death. The investigation is ongoing.
