In Saratov Region, head of first-aid and obstetric station found guilty of failure to help infant

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Saratov Region Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict a 51-year-old head of the first-aid and obstetric station in one of the settlements in Voskresenskoye District, Saratov Region. She was found guilty of a crime under Part 2 of Article 124 of the RF Penal Code (failure to help a patient without any valid reason by a person who was obliged to help, entailing death of the patient by negligence).

The investigation and court have revealed that between 14 and 16 June 2015, the head of the first-aid and obstetric station despite requests made by the infant’s relatives, did not provided medical aid to the 5-month-old baby without any valid reasons. On 16 June 2016, the parents brought the baby girl to the station where she died.

According to the results of a forensic medical inquiry, the baby died of intoxication caused by coli-infection.

Protecting children against crimes is a priority line in the activity of the Investigative Committee. Despite the fact that the woman did not admit her guilty, the investigators collected and processed the evidence so that the court had the bases to make its decision. The principle of inevitability of punishment for a crime triumphed.

The court has sentenced the woman to 2 years of probation and banned her from doing any medical activity for 2 years. In addition, the court satisfied the action of the victim for 500,000 rubles of damages.
