In Chelyabinsk Region, probe launched into unsafe passenger transportation services provided on Lake Turgoyak

The Ural Transport Office of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation into provision of passenger transportation services on motorboats across Lake Turgoyak in Chelyabinsk Region which constitutes to a crime under Part 1 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code (provision of services that do not meet safety standards).

According to investigators, on 3 July 2016, at about 4 PM, some unidentified individuals from among workers of Turgoyak Fleet Shipping Company provided services that did not meet safety standards by transporting passengers aboard the Sadko motorboat and the Triumph sail and motorboat. The services were provided on regular bases as entertainment routes and as transportation of passengers charging at least 800 rubles per passenger. However, the workers of the said company have no inland water transportation license or registration in the State Ship Registry.

In addition, on the same day they also grossly violated the passenger capacity norm while transporting people across Lake Turgoyak, Miass Urban District, Chelyabinsk Region, there were no navigation means, communication or fire extinguishers, while rescue means and life jackets were stored in hard-to-reach places and were not handed out to passengers.

The Sadko and Triumph boats have been confiscated.

The investigators are carrying out a set of investigative operations to find out all the details of the crime and other possible wrongdoings. The investigation is continued.
