In Saratov Region, man found guilty of killing sports coach

A court has recognized the evidence gathered by the Saratov Region Office of the Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Rasim Kerimov, 46. He was found guilty of crimes Part 2, items “e” and “f” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code (murder), Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2, items “a”, “e”, “f” and “j” of Article 105 (attempted murder of two).

The court and investigators have revealed that on the evening of 30 November 2015, Kerimov, who is the father of one of the trainees, came to the gymnasium of a sports club. The man quarreled with the coach and opened fire from a PM gun in a crowded place and then took off. The karate coach was killed on the spot. Besides, the man wounded two victim’s relatives. The two men survived thanks to timely rendered medical aid.

According to medical forensic inquiries the two survivors sustained grievous and medium bodily harm.

Kerimov turned himself in at the local police department, gave testimony and gave up the gun he had used as a murder weapon.

In addition, he gave the police officers an improvised revolver and 46 9mm cartridges he possessed illegally.

The investigation was opened into a crime under Part 1 of Article 222 of the RF Penal Code (illegal purchase, storage and selling of firearms and ammunition), committed by an unidentified person. The case was formed into a separate lawsuit and referred to the police for investigation.

During the preliminary probe, the investigators did a lot of work, namely, they questioned more than 100 witnesses, carried out at least 20 examinations of objects and scenes, ran more than 15 forensic inquiries, including a comprehensive psychological one. There are 9 files of case materials.

The court has sentenced Kerimov to 24 years in a maximum-security correctional facility.
