Chairman of Investigative Committee opens investigation against former judge of commercial court in Tambov Region

Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin has initiated criminal proceedings against former judge of a Tambov Region commercial court Sergei Suchkov suspected of taking a bribe of a large scale under part 5, item “c” of Article 290 and an attempt to take a bribe on a considerable scale under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 4 of Article 290 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, on 1 March 2016, Suchkov issued a ruling to restore the term for submission of an 8 million rubles writ of execution from one construction firm to another. Two weeks later, during a conversation with a representative of the debtor offered him his assistance in the postponement of exaction for a reward of 200 thousand rubles. The representative agreed and the next day the judge issued a respective ruling. A week later, at the meeting with the representative of the debtor the judge said that he had also issued a ruling to refuse the guarantee of the action assessing this service at 100 thousand rubles more, which was to be transferred to him later. The judge was detained by agents of the Tambov Region Office of the Federal Security Service upon receiving the 200 thousand rubles.

In May 2016, the Tambov Region qualification board of judges dismissed the judge owing to his misdemeanor. Last September the RF Supreme Qualification Board of Judges considered a request filed by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee and consented to opening an investigation against Suchkov.

The investigation of the case was charged to the Tambov Region Office of the Investigative Committee.
