St. Petersburg investigators appeal to citizens who know something about activities of groups of death on social networking sites

The Saint Petersburg Directorate of the Investigative committee continues an investigation in soliciting teenagers to commit suicide on a popular social networking site (Part 4 of Article 33, Article 110 of the RF Penal Code). Earlier investigators detained and charged administrator of a group of death Filipp Budeikin registered under nickname Filipp Lis (Fox) and at present he is in custody.

It has been revealed that Budeikin and other unidentified individuals promoted suicidal behavior and urged teenage users to take their own lives on Vkontakte social networking site. In the first place their victims were teenagers who are facing typical teenage problems and on whom adult “well-wishers” imposed a radical way out.

By now investigators of the Saint Petersburg Directorate of the Investigative Committee have identified 15 members of groups of death who committed suicides in different regions of Russia. All of them found themselves in a most serious psychological trap and following demands of the groups’ administrators had deleted messages from the social networking site before taking the fatal step.

To identify the persons pushing teenagers to take their own lives, the investigators are appealing to citizens who may know something about attempts of suicides among teenagers influenced by the user under the nickname of Filipp Lis and are asking to give this information on the phone of the Saint Petersburg Directorate of the Investigative Committee: 8(812)570-66-71 or 02. The investigators guarantee anonymity.
