Probe into death of people in Irkutsk Region from poisoning with alcohol-containing products passed over to Investigative Committee’s Central Office

Following the order of the Investigative Committee’s Chairman Alexander Bastrykin, the case opened over production, storage, selling of goods and productions that do not meet safety standards and entailed death of two or more people under Part 3 of Article 238 of the RF Penal Code after several people died after they had drunk liqueur has been passed over to the Head Office of the Investigative Committee for most thorough and impartial investigation.

A team of experienced investigators and criminalists of the Investigative Committee’s central office have been sent to Irkutsk.

According to the latest data, out of 57 people taken to hospitals after they drank haw concentrate 41 died. As of now two dealers are under investigation. However, the investigators are going to identify all people who have to do with the concentrate, including producer and to give them legal assessment.

The investigators continue questioning survivors who are now in stable condition, and their relatives. The investigators have assigned necessary forensic medical and chemical examinations, they are questioning witnesses and are carrying out other investigative operations to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigators together with police have confiscated more than 2 thousand bottles of more than 500 liters of concentrate. The investigation is ongoing.
