In Leningrad Region, probe launched in manslaughter of elderly man

The Leningrad Region Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in negligent murder due to improper discharge of duties under Part 2 of Article 109 of the RF Penal Code after the dead body of an elderly man was found a taxi driver had failed to take him home.

The man is known to have taken taxi on 15 December 2016 to get from a hospital in Saint Petersburg to Lonomosov District, Leningrad Region, but never came home. His daughter reported him missing on the evening of the same day. The men’s dead body without visible traces of violent death was found on 16 December 2016, in Zarechnaya Street in the village of Raikuzi, Lomonosov District. According to preliminary conclusion of a forensic medical expert the man died of a heart attack.

At present, investigative operations are underway. Investigators are questioning witnesses, the taxi driver and dispatchers, confiscating documents relevant for the investigation and assigning necessary forensic medical inquiries. They are going to look in detail into all the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, including giving legal assessment to actions (omission) of the taxi service and the driver.
