Investigative Committee Chairman opens probe against Stavropol judge suspected of attempted fraud

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation against a judge of Leninsky District Court of the city of Stavropol Inna Popova suspected of an attempted fraud under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 4 of Article 159 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, in May 2015, a man told his acquaintance that he wanted to be employed as a judge in Stavropol Territory and she told him that she knew a judge in Leninsky District Court in Stavropol and she could check the protocol for applying for the job. In July 2015, the woman met the judge she knew who told her false information that she could assist in employing the man as a federal judge in the city of Stavropol for 12 million rubles. The man was scared that the judge could steal the money and reported her to the Stavropol Territory Office of the Federal Security Service. Later, the woman, involved in the operation carried by federal agents, met with the judge and gave her a bag with 10 thousand rubles and replicas of 9 million 990 thousand rubles. The suspect was detained upon taking the money.

For most qualified investigation the case has been passed on to the Stavropol Territory Major Cases Office of the Investigative Committee.
