In Transbaikalian Territory, probe launched in violence by police officers.

On 17 January 2017, the police got a report that some unidentified police officers of the Mogoitui District police station used violence against a 19-year-old boy and an 18-year-old girl. In addition, on 25 January 2017, a number of media outlets reported that the two teenagers were taken to hospital after they had been interrogated at the said police station. The Transbaikalian Territory Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in abuse of powers committed using violence under Part 3, item “a” of Article 286 of the RF Penal Code.

According to investigators, in early January 2017, some unidentified police officers used banned means to interrogate the teenagers making them confess to larceny. The boy was taken to hospital with a compression spine fracture while the girl suffered bruises to her face and body.

The investigators are conducting urgent investigative operations to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime and to identify the police officers suspected of the crime. They are going to interrogate the teenagers and order necessary forensic inquiries. Necessary documents will be confiscated from the police station. The investigation is ongoing.
