In Transbaikalian Territory, local resident found guilty of killing two children

A court has recognized the evidence collected by the Transbaikalian Territory Office of the Investigative Committee as sufficient to convict a 35-year-old resident of the town of Chita named Alezei Fedosov. He was found guilty of the murder of two children under Part 2, items “a”, “b” and “e” of Article 105 of the RF Penal Code.

The court and investigators have revealed that on 30 August 2016, following a minor quarrel Fedosov brutally killed a 12-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy in a dacha cooperative located near the agrarian town of Opytny in Chernovsky District of Chita. The man hit the girl on her head with a hammer at least 6 times and the boy at least 15 times. The boy died at the scene and the girl a few days later at a hospital.

Despite the fact that there were no witnesses and the accused often changed his statements, the investigators were still able to gather and produce in the court compelling evidence against Fedosov. At the start of the investigation the man had confessed and gave a detailed account of the crime. But then he recanted and claimed that he had slandered himself after having been tortured by the police. This allegation was checked by the investigation and was disproved.

DNA, dactylographic and other forensic examinations were carried out of items and biological evidence seized from Fedosov and confirmed the investigators’ version. The accused underwent a psychiatric test and was found able to appreciate his actions.

The court has sentenced Fedosov to a life in a special-security correctional facility.
