Suspect of urging mass riots in downtown Moscow identified and held

The Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee continues an investigation in calls for mass riots under Part 3 of Article 212 of the RF Penal Code.

As became known earlier, on 29 March 2017, an unidentified person under an alias posted online, that is in free access for an unlimited number of people, extremist messages.

Despite the fact that the crime was committed using computer technologies, investigators together with the Moscow office of the Interior Ministry have identified and detained a suspect in a short time. It is a 25-year-old man.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspected posted materials calling for mass riots in downtown Moscow using a special software intended to hide any traces of presence online, namely, using servers located in other countries.

The investigators have searched the suspect’s home and seized a lot of computer equipment and electronic devices used for transmitting and spreading information. They also confiscated other items relative to the investigation.

All the items are being processed for evidence, while investigative and other procedural operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the crime. The suspect is now expecting a restraint. The investigation is ongoing.
