The evidence gathered by investigators of the West Siberian Transport Office of the Investigative Committee is seen as sufficient by court to pronounce a sentence to a pilot due to hard landing of a Robinson R-66 helicopter in Chemal District, AltaiRepublic in March 2016. He is found guilty of violation of the rules of traffic safety and operation of air transport, leading to severe damage of helicopter by negligence under Part 1 of Article 263 of the RF Penal Code.
The investigators have revealed that on 14 March 2016 approximately at 03:00 PM (local time) the Robinson R-66 helicopter piloted by the accused with the student-pilot on board, collided with the reserve communication cable at altitude of 4 meters and crashed on its left side. In accordance with the Interstate Aviation Committee resolution, as well as flight expertise, the lack of awareness caused the crash, as he was landing on sand and rock bank of the KatunRiver and didn’t make sure that the landing zone is suitable and didn’t notice a communication cable.
Nobody was injured in the crash, the helicopter was severely damaged and is beyond repairs.
A court ruled out to sentence the pilot to 1 year and 6 months of prison.
