In Sakha (Yakutia), probe launched in injuring children after falling from balcony

The Sakha (Yakutia) Republic Office of the Investigative Committee has initiated an investigation in inflicting grievous bodily harm by negligence under Part 1 of Article 118 of the RF Penal Code after two small children fell from a balcony.

According to investigators, in the evening of 28 April 2017, two cousins, a four-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, fell from a balcony on the third floor of an apartment building in Lenin Street in the settlement of Verkhnevilyuisk.

A man living in a house next door saw the children falling and called an ambulance. At present, both children are at the surgery unit of a district hospital in stable but grave condition. Their lives are out of danger now. The boy suffered a concussion and a brain injury, while the girl sustained a concussion, a brain injury and a hip joint injury.

Forensic medical examinations have been ordered, other operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
