In St. Petersburg, new crimes revealed committed by man charged with sex crimes

The Saint Petersburg Office of the Investigative Committee is conducting an investigation against a 54-year-old man charged with rape under Part 2, item “b” of Article 131 and sexual abuse under part 2, item “b” of Article 132 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, the accused severely beat a woman on 15 September 2016 in Polezhayevsky Park. He then threatened to kill her, raped and sexually abused the victim.

The investigators and police operatives worked hard to establish that the perpetrator was involved in other similar crimes including those committed in other region. DNA tests of biological evidence found on the victim’s clothes and other items helped to prove that the man had committed two more crimes, one of which almost 15 years ago.

On the night of 2003, the man attacked a woman near Dimitrov Street and Southern Highway in Saint Petersburg. He beat her and raped threatening with a knife. At the moment, the investigation is suspended as the investigators are trying to locate the victim.

Investigators in Komi have established that the same man committed a similar crime against a woman in the town of Syktyvkar on 13 June 2016. The Saint Petersburg Directorate of the Investigative Committee is going to take over this investigation.

The accused has been put in custody pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.
