Investigative Committee employees take part in mourning on Lake Syamozero in Karelia

A mourning event was held today at Lake Syamozero in the settlement of Kudama, Pryazha District, Karelia where several children drowned. The events of 18 June 2017 came as a shock not only to the residents of a small settlement, but to the whole country. Horrible words – children died made millions of people flinch in pain. It was not important how many kilometers lied between them and the tragedy scene – all of them grieved for 14 dead children. But the biggest shock and pain fell upon the families of the dead children as losing a child is the worst thing that can happen in a family.

Death of children is always the guilt of adults. Unfortunately, the Syamozero tragedy became a terrible lesson for those who take responsibility for the safety and health of children. It demonstrated clearly what can happen because of negligence, cowardice and thoughtlessness. Such tragedy must never happen again.

A cross was erected in Kudama on the shore of Lake Syamozero to memorize everyone’s grieve for the dead children, so now this is the place of memory and penance. 14 wreaths were laid to the cross and one more was let afloat on the lake.

Officials of the Karelia Office of the Investigative Committee who took part in the mourning event offered condolences to the families and friends of the dead children whose lives were divided forever in before and after. The employees of the Investigative Committee share this grieve.
