Probe launched in traffic accident involving school bus and log truck in Komi Republic

The Komi Republic Office of the Investigative Committee has taken over an investigation into a traffic accident involving a school bus and a log truck opened by the police in violation of the road code entailing death of two or more people under Part 5 of Article 264 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, on 27 October 2017, near the settlement of Yb, Syktyvdinsky District, a 60-year-old driver of the school bus PAZ-320608 owned by Yasneg School turned left at kilometer marker 735 of motorway between Cheboksary and Syktyvkar and did not give road to the oncoming Mercedes log truck with a 39-year-old driver inside. The bus driver and two of his passengers (women aged 53 and 65) died in the collision. The log truck driver was taken to hospital in critical condition. Several other passengers of the bus, including underage, suffered a range of injuries.

The investigators have examined the accident scene and seized documents relevant to the investigation. Other investigative and procedural operations are ongoing to find out the reasons and circumstances surrounding the accident, to gather and register evidence.

The probe is under control at the Investigative Committee’s Central Office.
