Head of summer camp at boarding school fined for office abuse after children got hurt when picking cow-parsnip in Komi

The Komi Republic Office of the Investigative Committee has finished investigation in involving inmates of Pazhga specialized boarding school No 15 for orphans and neglected children in picking cow-parsnip and injuring them. Head of the second session of the summer camp Galina Vurdova was charged with abuse of power under Part 1of Article 286 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to investigators, in July 2017, the woman violated laws, including health code, when she ordered the teachers and inmates of the school at least twice to pick cow-parsnip growing on the premises. The accused was aware that education of the inmates through work should not have involved potential harm, while picking cow-parsnip can cause burns and other injuries.

Two of the inmates aged 17 and 16 got burns classified as minor harm in the first case and as causing no harm in the second one. Two more teenagers could have gotten burns, but avoided it by a lucky accident.

The accused has been fined 30 thousand rubles.

In addition, the staff of the school and Komi Ministry of Education and Science involved in violation of rights of children have been disciplined after the Komi Republic Office of the Investigative Committee filed a request to eliminate contributing factors of the crime.
