An Antonov An-2 plane en route from the town of Naryan-Mar to the settlement of Kharuta crashed today at about 10:30 AM at the airport of Naryan-Mar, Nenets Autonomous Area. There were 2 crew members and 11 passengers aboard. The number of the killed and injured is being confirmed.

The first major cases department of the Northwestern Transport Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in violation of aircraft traffic safety and operation entailing death of more than two people under Part 3 of Article 263 of the RF Criminal Code.

At present, investigators are checking three possible options of the crash: adverse weather, pilot’s error or possible technical failures.

Investigators and criminalists of the Arkhangelsk Region and Nenets Autonomous Area Office of the Investigative Committee are working at the crash scene to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident. A briefing has been held at the Northwestern Transport Office to work out an investigation plan.
