Probe launched in Omsk Region in fire killing 5 adopted kids

A fire started in a two-storey wooden detached house today in the settlement of Sedelnikovo, Omsk Region at about 1 PM. 5 children were killed in the fire. The Omsk Region Office of the Investigative Committee opened an investigation in reckless homicide under Part 3 of Article 109 of the RF Criminal Code.

At present, investigators and criminalists are working at the scene. According to preliminary information, the fire happened in the house occupied by a couple with adopted children, 5 of whom: two sisters aged 6 and 10, their 16-year-old brother, and two more girls aged 11 and 18 died. The adoptive mother was taken to a hospital, while two more children and their adoptive gather were not hurt.

A gas explosion is assumed to have been the cause of the fire. The exact cause of fire will be known after the investigation of the scene and a fire technical examination.

The investigators are going to look into the conditions the children lived in. Urgent investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The investigators are going to assess the actions of the couple and those of guardianship authorities supervising the family.
