Probe into attack on school students in Buryatia passed over to Head Office

Following order of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee the case over an attack in a school in Buryatia has been passed over into the Head Office. Experienced investigators and criminalists have left for the crime scene.

The investigation was opened into attempted murder of two or more people committed against minors under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 105 and negligence under Article 293 of the RF Criminal Code.

According to preliminary information, on the morning of 19 January 2018, a ninth-grader of a school located in Sosnovy Bor district of Ulan-Ude took an axe and attacked 7th-graders. Then he set a classroom on fire with a Molotov cocktail. 5 students and a teacher were wounded. The attacker was detained and taken to hospital after trying to kill himself. Investigators are now working to find out motives of the crime and all the circumstances surrounding the crime.

At present necessary investigating operations are underway on the scene to gather physical evidence. The investigators are also going to assess the actions (omission) of the school staff and child negligence prevention authorities responsible for safety at school.
