Sakhalin Region investigators are looking into loss of connection with Vostok fishing vessel

The Far Eastern Transport Office of the Investigative Committee has opened an investigation in safety breach causing death of two or more people under part 3 of Article 263 of the RF Criminal Code after contact was lost with the Vostok ship in the Sea of Japan.

According to investigators, the Vostok fishing vessel was on its way from the port of Donghae, South Korea, to the port of Kholmsk, Sakhalin Region. At 9:32 PM Moscow time on 24 January 2018, a report was received that an emergency radio buoy was set off. At present, the vessel is impossible to be located and is not reporting back. Neither vessel nor its crew have been found around the radio buoy.

The search and rescue operation involves several vessels in the Sea of Japan. Investigative operations are underway to find out all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
