The Western Interregional Transport Investigations Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation continues investigation of criminal case against small size vessel "Favorit" flooded in the area of Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea, initiated on grounds of a crime stipulated by Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Russia (violation of safety rules and operation of maritime transport).

According to the investigation, on October 5, 2021, during the period of time in the water area of the Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea near the village of Kashkarantsy, Tersk District of the Murmansk Region, under stormy weather conditions, the small vessel Favorit was flooded, which left the port of Gelendzhik and followed to Murmansk along the rivers Don and Volga. On October 5 of this year, a distress signal was received from the ship, it was reported that the engine room was flooded. It was found that the sea was very rough, the wind reached gusts of 20 m / s. Subsequently, five people on board found themselves in low temperature water. As a result, the owner of the ship, born in 1972 and his brother, as well as a man born in 1971, went missing, and a woman born in 1974 and her son, born in 2000 managed to escape, but later the woman died as a result of general hypothermia during hospitalization in a medical institution. On October 06, 2021, the body of a man born in 1971 was discovered on the shore of the Kandalaksha Bay.

Currently, the location of the vessel has been established, which is located at a depth of about 10 meters, at a distance of about 1 km from the coastline, diving operations are underway. The search for passengers of the small vessel by the employees of the Murmansk Arctic Complex Rescue Center of the EMERCOM of Russia, the Murmansk Rescue Coordination Center of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Administration of the Western Arctic Seaports", as well as the GIMS Center of the Main Directorate of the EMERCOM of Russia in the Murmansk Region continues.

Investigators of the Murmansk Investigative Department of Transport inspected the scene of the incident - the coastline of the Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea near the village Kashkarants of Tersk district of the Murmansk region. The surviving passenger and the daughter of the deceased woman, who was interrogated in this procedural status, were recognized as victims; documents for a small vessel were requested; the investigators appointed medical forensic examinations, organized a wide range of investigative actions and operational-search measures aimed at establishing all the circumstances, causes and conditions that led to the onset of tragic consequences.
