The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia orders to report about circumstances of fatal road accident in Kalmykia

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin instructed the Head of the Kalmykia Republic Investigative Department A.V. Serdyukov, to report on the progress of the probe into an accident with a passenger bus under the Criminal Code article "rendering services that do not meeting safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence".

According to investigators, on 24 October 2021 a head-on collision of a passenger bus and a KAMAZ truck occurred on the R-216 road Astrakhan - Elista - Stavropol in the Yashkul district of the Republic of Kalmykia. The accident resulted in the death of 5 bus passengers, including one minor, and 8 passengers sustained injuries of varying severity. 

The necessary investigative measures are currently being taken to establish all the circumstances of the accident. During the investigation, the technical documentation of the vehicle will be examined and a number of forensic examinations, including a medical examination of the bus driver, will be ordered. Investigators are questioning him. The investigating unit also requested that the prosecutor's office seize and transfer the materials of the accident investigation from the police for further investigation.

The progress of investigation of the probe is under the supervision upon instruction of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
