The Orel Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia conducted an initial investigation into the discovery of human bone remains in the town of Bolkhov, Orel Region, which led to the initiation of criminal proceedings on the grounds of a crime under Paragraph A of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder).
According to investigators, December 16, 2021 during excavation work on the territory of the Bolkhov plant of semiconductor devices workers found human bone remains in the foundation pit at a depth of more than 2 meters in the spoil heaps. As a result of the inspection of the scene they found and seized fragments of thirty human skeletal remains with injuries, including gunshot wounds, which indicate that the victims had committed a violent death by accident, presumably during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Necessary forensic and genetic examinations have now been ordered to establish the age and exact cause of death of the victims.
The Nazis occupied the Oryol region during the Great Patriotic War from October 1941 until August 1943. During this time, according to incomplete data, over 80 thousand civilians - women, children and the elderly - were killed.
The investigation of the criminal case continues.
