The criminal case against the six participants of the hijack of the ship Arctic Sea is sent to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation for approval of the sentence

The General Investigative Office of the Investigative Committee has finished the investigation into criminal case against Aleksey Andryushin, Dmitri Bartenev, Igor Borisov, Aleksey Blev, Vitaly Lepins and Yevgeny Mironov, accused of a crime under part 3, article 227 of the Criminal Code (piracy).

The accused were members of an organized criminal group, who in early hours of 25 July, 2009 hijacked the vessel Arctic Sea manned with Russian crew.

A criminal case has been transferred to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation for approval of the sentence.

It is should be pointed out that previously the Moscow City Court has sentenced two hijackers of the cargo ship Artic Sea: Savins was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment and Lunev – to 5 years imprisonment. In early November 2010 the criminal case against another hijacker Demchenko was sent to the court for consideration on the merits.
