Progress of investigation into criminal case over death of paratroopers in Republic of Tuva

The Tuva Republic investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating criminal case initiated over death of paratroopers of parachute fire-fighting service of the state autonomous institution of the Tuva Republic “Avialesookhrana”, participating in extinguishing of forest fires in Bai-Taiginsky district, on the signs of crime under parts 2 and 3 of article 109 of the RF Criminal Code (the infliction of death by negligence on two or more persons).

It was preliminary found, that on 2 June 2012, 3 officials of aviation firefighting service were sent to put out fires in 13th block in Bai-Taiginsky district. On 4 June the firefighters sent a message that they weren’t coping. The same and next day a squad of two instructors and nine paratroopers was sent to help. On 6 June about 6 p.m. the paratroopers fighting the fire at the foot of the mountain, were caught be a crown fire intensified by wind. Five of them set off sideways of the hotbed and managed to escape. The rest nine of them, who later perished, ran up the mountain to escape the fire. One of the paratroopers dived into a hole full of water and waited till the fire was over.

At present the investigators are withdrawing documents. In shortest possible time on the arrival of the helicopter with the bodies, the identification procedure will be organized and further forensic medical examinations to determine the cause of death. The investigation is to be continued.
