Criminal case initiated over mass poisoning of children in children’s health camp in Volgograd Region

36 children were delivered from 4 to 7 July 2012 to the infectious disease ward of the Rudnyansky District Central Hospital of Volgograd Region from children’s health camp Druzhba with signs of food poisoning. 6 of them were diagnosed average poisoning, the rest – mild poisoning. Volgograd Region investigating bodies of Russia’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over signs of a crime under part 1 of article 238 of RF Criminal Code (fulfillment of works or rendering of services which do not meet standards of safety to lives or health of consumers).

According to investigators, on 3 and 4 July 2012 all hospitalized children ate in the camp canteen. Analysis of twenty-four-our samples of foodstuffs on the canteen’s menu on the said days, has showed that they are dangerous for life and health and can lead to yersiniosis which entails disability.

At present investigation operations are under way to establish all circumstances of the crime. Investigation is to be continued.
