In Primorsky Territory criminal case initiated over mass poisoning of children in health camp Mechta

On 22 July 2012 law enforcement bodies got information that 26 children and one adult were hospitalized from children’s health camp Mechta to infectious disease ward of a hospital in Nakhodka with a diagnosis of acute gastroenteritis. Primorsky Territory investigating bodies of Russia’s Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case into the fact on the signs of a crime under part 1 of article 236 of RF Criminal Code (violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules which has resulted in, by negligence, mass diseases or poisoning of people).

According to investigators, in the period between 20 and 22 July 2012 mass poisoning occurred in children’ health camp Mechta located in the village of Livadia, Primorsky Territory, due to violation of sanitary and epidemiological rules.

At present Federal Service for Supervision of Consumers Protection and Welfare to make an examination has seized samples of food. Investigation operations are under way to establish all circumstances of the incident. Investigation is to be continued.
