Check launched into threats with a knife to secretary and chairperson of electoral commission in Saratov Region

On 14 October 2012, during elections of deputies of Saratov Regional Duma of 5th convocation, a 63-year-old Reserve Colonel threatened to gravely wound a secretary and chairperson of the precinct electoral commission with a knife. Employees of the investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee attended the incident scene. A pre-investigating check has been launched into the incident.

According to preliminary data, the man arrived at the precinct in the morning, voted and then came up to a secretary of a precinct – a 22-year-old woman and put a knife to her throat. After that the man let the woman go and threatening with a knife to the chairman of the commission aged 76, said about lawlessness in law enforcement, inactions on his appeals and demanded to call for head of Federal Security Service Office of the region. The man was detained by policemen.

At present a number of operations are underway to establish all circumstances of the incident. A procedural decision will be made based on the results of the check.
