Investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have initiated a criminal case over crimes under part 3 of article 30, part 2 of article 105 (attempted murder of two or more persons committed by a group of persons) and part 2 of article 223 of the Russian Criminal Code (illegal manufacture of explosives by a group of persons).

According to preliminary information, on 18 August at 8:55 p.m. in the town of Khasavyurt two unknown people came in the mosque at Magidov Street and opened fire. Eight people were wounded and hospitalized. The assailants fled the crime scene leaving near the mosque SVU-50 – a one-liter gas tank stuffed with explosive which was hidden in a sack. The explosive was demined and destroyed by FSB officials on the spot.

At present investigation operations are under way to find out all the circumstances of the crime and to identify the persons involved. Investigation is to be continued.
