Progress of investigating criminal cases over mass riots on Bolotnaya Ploshchad

The Central Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has completed investigating a criminal case against a participant of mass riots on Bolotnaya Ploshchad on 6 May Maksim Luzyanin. He is charged with crimes under part 1 of article 318 (using violence not dangerous for health against a representative of authority) and part 2 of article 212 of the RF Criminal Code (participation in mass riots).

According to investigators, on 6 May during mass riots, Luzyanin who was between Bolotnaya Embankment and Bolotnaya Ploshchad, threw at the junior instructor sniper of Central Federal District field unit of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, who was ensuring public order during a mass event, a piece of asphalt. Then Luzyanin together with other participants of the mass riots stripped a private of special purpose unit of his uniform, knocked him down and beat him. As a result, the policeman suffered a closed brain injury and other traumas. Acting in a similar way, Luzyanin knocked down and beat up another three policemen. He used suffocating against one of them.

Investigators have collected enough evidence and the case with the approved indictment today will be forwarded to the court to be tried on the merits.

Investigation has been also finished against Mikhail Kosenko. The hospital psychological and psychiatric expert examination Kosenko suffers from a psychiatric disorder and could not be aware of public danger of his actions at the moment of the crime. In this connection the case was forwarded to the prosecutor to approve a petition on applying compulsory treatment to kosenko.

In addition the case against other 15 involved in the crime is being finished. In the near future the final charges will be brought against them.
