Considering messages on minors’ suicides was summed up in the investigative Committee

The Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has held a meeting summing up considering messages on minors’ suicides in the period between 2010 and first half of 2012.

In 2010, there were 798 cases of minors’ suicides registered in Russia, in 2011 – 896, in the first half of 2012 – 532. Investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have carried out pre-investigating checks into all those facts. Criminal cases were launched over a crime under article 110 of the RF Criminal Code in cases where there were signs of incitement of minors to suicide.

The analysis has shown that a large proportion of children who committed suicides, were already in need of not only a social teacher or a therapist, but interference of bodies responsible for preventing crimes committed by minors or against minors in connection with hard life or socially dangerous situation in their families.

In addition, in the number of cases there was revealed wrong assessment by specialists of healthcare system or prevention bodies of critical mental state of children who committed suicide. Often the help they got was not adequate to the situation.

In this connection, the Investigative Committee within the framework of competence provided by law is going to take part in developing efficient system of minors’ suicide prevention.
