Criminal case against assilant on Budennovsk in 1995 sent to court

The North Caucasus Federal District Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has completed investigating a criminal case against Moulda Khabayev charged with a crime under part 2 of article 209 of the RF Criminal Code, part 2 of article 126.1 of the RSFSR Criminal Code, part 3 of article 205, part 3 of article 327, part 3 of article 327, part 1 of article 322, part 1 of article 322.

According to investigators a resident of the city of Grozny, Chechen Republic, Khabayev in the first half of June 1995 voluntarily joined a gang led by Shamil Basayev and took an active part in serious and especially serious crimes.

This way, Khabayev being a member to the Basayev’s stable armed gang on 14 June 1995 attacked organizations and citizens of Budennovsk in the Stavropol Terriotry, took hostages and carried out a terrorist attack. As a result of the attack, 129 people were killed, 317 injured, 1,191 citizens sustained moral damage, 1,586 citizens were taken hostages. 198 cars were destroyed or damaged, the fire damaged the House of Children’s Art, buildings of central district hospital, department of internal affairs, city administration, 107 houses were considerably damaged, property owned by legal or physical persons was destroyed or damaged, that is considerable property damage was inflicted, over 95 billion 619 million of non-denominated rubles.

In addition, Khabayev, intending to escape from criminal prosecution for the crimes, illegally received a passport of citizen of the Russian Federation and a foreign passport of citizen of the Russian Federation under the fake name and many times illegally crossed the border of the Russian Federation.

Today the criminal case with the indictment approved by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation has been forwarded to the court to be tried on the merits.
