Investigative Committee takes all possible measures to carefully check the information in the appeals of the convicts and to solve the crimes committed in Kopeysk correctional facility No. 6, Chelyabinsk Region

The Chelyabinsk Region-based investigating group of the Russia’s Investigative Committee working in the correctional facility has received more than 120 appeals of the convicts many of which contain information about extortion by the employees of the prison in the period between 2008 and November 2012 from 5 to 90 thousand rubles by creating adverse living conditions and threats of physical violence. The Chelyabinsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have initiated a criminal case over the situation on the signs of a crime under paragraphs “a” and “c” of Part 3 of article 286 of the RF Criminal Code (exceeding official powers). There are also 5 criminal cases started over a crime under part 1 of article 318 of the RF Criminal Code (use of violence against a representative of the authority) based on the facts that OMON officers during attack of the cordon by civilians outside the premises of the correctional facility. In addition Chelyabinsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue looking into the reasons of insubordination of the convicts in the Kopeysk colony on 24 November 2012.

Information spread by some internet sources about alleged refusals to initiate criminal cases and disinterested check of the appeals is not true. A number of all necessary investigating operations are under way in these criminal cases, based on the results of which the guilty officials will be established and prosecuted.
