Igor Bestuzhy, former Head of Stavropol Administration starts reading criminal case

Stavropol Territory Investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee today have started to familiarize Igor Bestuzhy, former Head of Stavropol Administration, with the materials of the criminal case charging him with crimes under part 3 of article 30, part 6 of article 290 (attempted bribe-taking), part 1 of article 222 (illegal handling of firearms) and part 6 of article 290 of the RF Criminal Code (bribe-taking on an especially large scale). He is going to read over 30 volumes.

According to investigators, Bestuzhy through an intermediary acting together with a real estate agent tried to receive a bribe of 50 million rubles from a citizen for giving on lease 5 ha of land belonging to Stavropol. Bestuzhy however failed to implement his criminal intention due to the fact that the police suppressed the activity of the intermediary and the real estate agent. In addition Bestuzhy illegally obtained and kept in his house 6 cartridges for a rifled gun.

Investigators have also established that Bestuzhy in August 2009 received a bribe of 1.8 million rubles through the same intermediary for giving on lease for 5 years a land plot in South Western district of Stavropol of 25 square meters belonging to the city.

After the accused is familiarized with the materials of the case, investigators are going to consider petitions of the accused and his defenders if there are any.
