Court has recognized evidence collected by Siberian Federal District Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict 6 members of a criminal community and its leader Alexander Trunov. Depending on the role of each one they were found guilty of crimes under articles 209, 210, 105, 167, 111, 163, 159 of the RF Criminal Code (banditry, creation and leadership of a criminal community, murder, intentional destruction of other’s property, infliction of grave injury to health, extortion and swindling).
According to investigators, in the period between 1997 and 2009 the accused committed four murders, two attempted murders of businessmen, with the purpose to rearrange spheres of influence, hooliganism with the use of violence against policemen, arson of cars with attack and infliction of grave injury to health of a guard, extortion from a businessman and swindling against former member of the community. The said crimes were carefully planned, committed using firearms: submachine guns and pistols of different modifications. Members of the gang also had modern appliances – walky-talkies, tapping devices and others. The community was a secret, hierarchical structure which constantly developed and improved. It included a stable armed group; divisions: for secret receipt of information; for guarding leaders; to provide members with firearms; and even for commission of crimes in economic sphere. All this prevented investigators from suppressing criminal activity of the group for a long time.
During the probe, investigators have discovered a storehouse with 40 units of different firearms with fingerprints of the group’s members and its leader. Forensic expert examinations have established that it was these firearms used for murders and attempted murders. Proofs of their guilt also include testimonies of more than 350 witnesses, including those checked on the spot, results of 150 expert examinations and more than 50 searches. The criminal case contains over 200 volumes.
The court based on the damning verdict by the jury sentenced Alexander Trunov to 22 years in prison and 800 thousand rubles of fine, Sergey Kamarnitsky – to 19 years in prison and 600 thousand rubles of fine, Vitaly Zaytsev – to 20 years in prison and 600 thousand rubles of fine, Andrey Ivanov – to 18 years in prison and 500 thousand rubles of fine, Vitaly Shevtsov – to 9 years in high-security prison and 600 thousand rubles of fine, Pavel Yegorov – to suspended sentence of 5 years in prison, Tatyana Doragayeva – to suspended sentence of 6 years in prison.
