The Main Investigation Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has finished investigating a criminal case against the lawyer Aleksey Navalny and CEO of OOO Vyatskaya Lesnaya Kompaniya (Vyatka Timber Company) (LLC) Pyotr Ofitserov. Aleksey Navalny is charged with a crime under Part 3 of Article 33, Part 4 of Article 160 of the RF Criminal Code (organization of embezzlement on a large scale). Pyotr Ofitserov is charged with a crime under part 5 of article 33 and part 4 of article 160 of the RF Criminal Code (complicity in a large-scale embezzlement). Today in accordance with article 215 of the RF Criminal Procedure Code an investigator has notified Navalny that the investigation was finished.
According to investigators, Alexei Navalny, as an Adviser to the Governor of the Kirov region, in collusion with the Director of the "Vyatka Forest Company" Pyotr Ofitserov and the Director General of "Kirovles" Vyacheslav Opalev, organized stealing of property of the Kirov Regional State Unitary Enterprise "Kirovles". The investigators suggest that more than 10 thousand cubic meters of timber belonging "Kirovles" was stolen in the period from May to September 2009. Therefore, the budget of the Kirov region suffered damage amounting to more than 16 million rubles.
One of the defengants, Vyacheslav Opalev, pleaded guilty and signed a pre-trial cooperation agreement, in which he gave detailed evidence on the circumstances of the crime committed in complicity with Navalny. In this regard, the criminal case against Opalev was severed in a separate law suit and sent to the court, which found him guilty. In the near future the files of the criminal case will be presented to the injured party to read.
