Restraining measure against Yekaterina Smetanova changed to milder one

Today an investigator of the Main Military Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee during investigating a criminal case over frauds with assets owned by OAO Oboronservis (OJSC) controlled by the Defense Ministry and its affiliated companies, has changed a restraining measure from custody to a written undertaking not to leave the place for the accused Yekaterina Smetanova, the former CEO of the Expert legal support center.

We remind that during the investigation of this case Smetanova was detained one of the first. The next day Khamovnichesky district court of Moscow granted the motion of putting her into custody. She is charged with crimes under part 4 of article 159 of the RF Criminal Code (swindling on an especially large scale) and part 3 of article 204 (official bribery).

In December 2012, Smetanova signed a pretrial cooperation agreement. Executing her commitments the accused is actively cooperating with investigators, she has pleaded guilty of all crimes incriminated to her, has given detailed and consistent evidence, exposing other accomplices to the crime.

Taking into consideration the above said and the fact that Smetanova is not going to hide or prevent investigation in any other way, has permanent place of residence and undertakes to be in time when the investigators summons her, her health and the fact that she has children aged 11 and 12, the investigator of the Main Military Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee passed a resolution changing her restraining measure to a milder one – a written undertaking not to leave the place and behave properly.

In view of possible threat to Smetanova’s health and life she was put under state protection.

Investigation is to be continued.
