In Moscow Region, check underway in rail accident killing elderly woman and her granddaughter

On 4 May 2014, at 09:30 AM, a 79-year-old woman and her 17-year-old granddaughter in a wheel chair were fatally injured by a train near the station Valentinovka on Moscow-Yaroslavl direction of Moscow railway while crossing the rails. Another granddaughter 10 years of age was not hurt. The investigating bodies of Moscow Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are carrying out a pre-investigating check into the accident.

It has been preliminarily found that while the woman and the girl were crossing the rails, the wheels of the wheel chair got stuck in a passage decking. The elderly woman and the younger granddaughter failed to free the wheels and the train which was moving in their direction hit the two victims.

At present investigators are carefully examining the accident scene and questioning the eye-witnesses. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
