In Sverdlovsk Region pre-investigating check underway in children poisoning

On 23 May 2014, the law enforcement of the town of Pervouralsk got a report that 11 children had a food poisoning in the village of Novoutkinsk. The Sverdlovsk Region investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee are carrying out a pre-investigating check in the incident.

It has been preliminarily established that 5 underage children were hospitalized with signs of a food poisoning, with one of them having preliminarily confirmed diagnosis of Sonne dysentery. 6 children are being treated at home. The patients include children from a local kindergarten and school and two children, not visiting preschool facilities. It has also been established, that the victims applied at hospital between 16 and 23 May 2014 complaining about deterioration of health.

By now samples have been taken from the wells in the village, water and food samples from kitchens in kindergartens and schools are being analyzed. The victims and their relatives, officials of preschool facilities and the local school are being questioned. The possible source and causes of the poisoning are being looked into. A procedural decision will be made following the check.
