Former first deputy of and assistant prosecutor of Kislovodsk, Stavropol Territory found guilty of bribery

Court has found the evidence collected by the North Caucasian Federal District Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee sufficient to convict Vitaly Timofeyev, the former first deputy of prosecutor of Kislovodsk and Svetlana Reznikova, former senior assistant prosecutor of Kislovodsk. Timofeev was found guilty of a crime under paragraph “c” of part 5 of article 290 of the RF Criminal Code (taking a bribe), Reznikova – of intermediary in bribery (paragraph “c” of part 3 of article 291.1).

The court and investigators found that Timofeyev wanting to get a bribe from the owner of a block of flats under construction in Kislovodsk and having revealed violations of the current legislation, demanded through Reznikova to give him 1 million rubles for not taking any measures. During one of the meeting with the owner Timofeyev agreed to bring down the sum to 700 thousand rubles.

From the very beginning Timofeyev and Reznikova denied their guilt and tried by any means to avoid responsibility. One of the weighty evidence proving involvement of the former first deputy of prosecutor of Kislovodsk in the crime was the recording of his talks with the potential bribe-giver. Being a man very well- grounded in jurisprudence Timofeyev kept silent. He understood that investigators to run expert examinations needed samples of his voice. He not only refused to give testimonies, but remained silent even at the meeting with his wife. He confided only in a staffer of a pretrial detention center and that’s when his voice was finally recorded.

During the investigation 10 expert examinations were carried out, including 7 phonoscopic, which were entrusted to specialists in other regions in order to get objective results.

The court sentenced Timofeyev to 5 years in high-security prison and a fine of 42 million rubles, Reznikova – to 3 years in minimum-security prison and a fine of 42 million rubles.
