A working meeting of the personnel and senior officials of the Russia’s Investigative Committee and Nils Muižnieks, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Council of Europe was held on 10 April 2013 in the Russia’s Investigative Committee.

During the meeting the parties discussed investigation of crimes committed by law enforcement officers, murders of human rights activists in connection with their professional activity and penal actions connected with tortures and measures taken to prevent them.

Answering the Commissioner’s questions it was stressed that providing human and civil rights and freedoms during criminal process was one of the main principles in the current development of preliminary investigation system in the Russian Federation.
