Experienced investigators of Central Office of Investigative Committee sent to Dagestan to help investigating terrorist attack

Two cars were blown up today outside the bailiff service building in Makhachkala. According to preliminary information at least four people were killed, about 40 were injured. The information is being specified. More than 20 cars were damaged. Dagestani investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have launched a criminal investigation into signs of crimes under part 3 of article 205 of the RF Criminal Code (a terrorist attack), part 2 of article 222 (illegal handling of firearms and explosives), part 2 of article 223 (illegal manufacture of firearms and explosives) and part 2 of article 167 (deliberate destruction of property).

It is known, that the first explosion caused no casualties, the second device detonated in 15 minutes when law enforcement agents were working at the site. There are two policemen and two bailiffs among the killed. Presumably the bombs were set off remotely. The main bomb was about 40-50 kg of TNT. It was reinforced with dowels and reinforcement cut into pieces to cause more damages.

At present an investigating group composed of the most experienced investigators and criminologists of Main Investigations Directorate in North Caucasian Federal District and Investigations Directorate in the Republic of Dagestan. The power of bombs is being found out and the cars they were fastened to. Experienced criminal investigators of the Central Office of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have been sent to Dagestan to provide practical assistance in the probe. Investigation is ongoing.
