Russia’s Investigative Committee starts procedural check of Vitaly Grachov

Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee has started a procedural check into actions of Vitaly Grachov (stage name Vitas) and his wife, who on 10 May 2013 used violence against policemen in the territory of All-Russia Exhibition Center. The check was started after the Investigations Directorate received from the Moscow Main Office of the Russian Interior Ministry files of the incident and is going to determine whether their actions contained the signs of a crime under article 318 of the RF Criminal Code (use of violence against a representative of the authority). Grachov and his wife are going to be questioned during the check.

Investigators will very carefully check the information received from the Interior Ministry. Grachov and his wife’s actions will be given an objective and tough legal assessment. Presently the investigators have videos showing that the policemen were offended and the man and the woman were resisting them. I believe it is inadmissible whatever citizenship, political views, fame or degree of drunkenness to offend law enforcement agents, when they are on duty and moreover to resist them. Otherwise any of us tomorrow can face boorishness and outrage, and not only on the roads…

If the check will find the signs of the above-mentioned crimes, there will be a decision to launch a criminal investigation.
