Criminal proceedings launched against Vitaly Grachov in Moscow

Moscow investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee have opened a criminal case against Vitaly Grachov (singer Vitas) based on the results of a pre-investigating check. He is suspected of a crime under article 318 of the RF Criminal Code (violence against representatives of authority).

According to investigators, on 10 May this year Grachov was driving his car in All-Russia Exhibition Center in Moscow and ran down a cyclist Olga Kholodova. According to eyewitnesses, the driver tried to flee the scene after the incident. Grachov refused to take medical alcohol test. After the incident media started showing footage showing Grachov kicking one of the policemen and swearing at both of officers.

Investigators will very carefully investigate this case. Actions of Grachov and his wife, who was there during the incident, will be given an objective and tough legal assessment. Presently the investigators have videos showing that the policemen were offended and the man and the woman were resisting them. I believe it is inadmissible whatever citizenship, political views, fame or degree of drunkenness to offend law enforcement agents, when they are on duty and moreover to resist them. Otherwise any of us tomorrow can face boorishness and outrage, and not only on the roads…

At present investigating operations are underway to find all the circumstances of the crime. Investigation is ongoing.
