On 24 January 2011 at about 4:30 p.m. in foreign airlines arrivals area of the Domodedovo international airport Magomed Yevloev, 21, set off a hand-made explosive devise stuck to his belt. The explosion killed 37 and injured 172 Russian and foreign citizens.

Investigating the circumstances of the terrorist attack in the Domodedovo airport, investigators had an objective to solve not only this crime, but to stop the gang, who had organized it. Three days later they identified the suicide bomber. A week later they detained the first accomplice to the attack. It took the investigators and operational agents of the Russian Federal Security Service about two months to apprehend other suspects. It was found that the attack was organized by a leader of a criminal organization “Imarat Kavkaz” Doku Umarov, subordinate to whom was the gang led by Aslan Byutukaev, who had trained a suicide bomber Magomed Yevloev. The rebel camp of this terrorist organization, located in the woods of the Republic of Ingushetia, was destroyed in 2011 during a joint special operation. This way the most part of the organization were killed and the rest prosecuted.

To prove their guilt the investigators have done an enormous amount of work. Investigators have carried out about 600 various examinations, including linguistic, psychological and psychiatric, photo portrait, explosive-technical, biological and forensic medical examinations. In the end, the investigators found in details the role of each one of the four accused in plotting the terrorist attack.

Bashir Khamkhoyev and Akhmed Yevloyev accompanied perpetrator Magomed Yevloyev in Ingushetia, provided him with an accommodation for several days, food, clothes and shoes, exchanged US dollars for Russian rubles, provided with travel documents, the passport, drove him to the bus terminal in the city of Nazran and made sure that he got on the bus safely. Yandiyev brothers met Yevloyev in Moscow. They bought necessary motor vehicles and means of communication, provided reconnaissance in the place of future explosion, in Moscow searched and rented a flat for suicide bombers and storage of handicraft explosive devices, bought gears of the gang members and other things. it has also been found that Islam Yandiyev plotted another terrorist attack in Moscow to be committed in spring 2011.

At present agents of the Russian Federal Security Service and Interior Ministry keep on identifying and searching for Doku Umarov, Aslan Byutukayev and other people wanted in this case.

The court has sentenced Bashir Khamkhoyev and Ilez and Islam Yandiyev to life in prison. Akhmed Yevloyev was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
