Investigators found new circumstances of terrorist attack committed in Volgograd on 21 October 2013

The investigating bodies of the Russia’s Investigative Committee in Volgograd Region continue investigating a criminal case into a self-explosion committed by Naida Asiyalova on a coach in Volgograd on 21 October 2013 containing signs of crimes under part 3 of article 205 of the RF Penal Code (terrorist attack), part 2 of article 105 (murder), article 222 (illegal circulation of weapons).

At present the investigators have found out that while travelling from Makhachkala to Volgograd on a coach, Asiyalova was sitting alone on a double seat. She did not speak to anybody on her way, neither did she get off on the bus stops or had any means of communication with her. She in advance asked the driver to stop the coach at the Volgograd Academy of the Russian Interior Ministry. Passengers told that Asiyalova’s left hand had been bandaged and with the right one she had held something on her chest, explaining that she had had broken ribs. The investigators tend to think that with her right hand Asiyalova was holding an explosive device, as on the crime scene they found a bandage with traces of explosion and a fragment of a wire fixed to it from the inside, which might have been an element of the handicraft bomb.

The investigators have studied the personality, biography and relations of Asiyalova’s civil husband Dmitry Sokolov. It has been found that he was born in 1992 in the city of Krasnoyarsk to a family of a military man. The family had to often change homes each time the father was transferred to the places of services. At first they were transferred to Primorsky Territory, then returned in Krasnoyarsk and then moved to Moscow Region, where have lived since then. Sokolov changed 6 schools. In Krasnoyarsk he graduated from 9th grade and entered an air technical secondary school. When in late 2009 his family moved to Moscow Region he turned Mohammedan and entered the Moscow State Forestry University, but two months later took a sabbatical leave and when it expired dropped out of the University altogether. Now the investigators have information, that Sokolov was in Dagestan, where he met Asiyalova this July. According to operational information he is a member of a demolition squad of the subversive and terrorist group called Makhachkalinskaya, his Muslim name is Abduldzhabar and the alias - Giraffe.

During the probe the investigators have found that Asiyalova had some serious health problems. Medical charts seized by the investigators from the flats, where the woman lived, show that she suffered from problems with kidneys, pancreas and breasts, as well as with jaw bones.

The investigators believe that the terrorist attack was started to be plotted on 10 September 2013. This is the day when Asiyalova stopped contacting anybody.

As of present moment over 150 witnesses and eye-witnesses have been questioned. A series of forensic analyses have been assigned. A bomb technical expert examination is being conducted in Moscow in the research institute of the Russian Federal Security Service. The specialists incline to think that it was Asiyalova who set off the bomb, as no fragments of cellphones or radios, Asiyalova could have used, or that could have been part of the bomb, have been found on the scene of the explosion or anywhere near it. A merchandising analysis will find the damage to people and organizations.

At present 17 of the injured are in hospital, 7 of them in Moscow. 14 more were discharged on 5 November 2013 and are being treated at home.

The investigation is ongoing.
