Investigators keep on looking into circumstances of Boeing-737 crash in Kazan

The investigating bodies of Volga Region Transport Investigations Directorate of the Russia’s Investigative Committee continue investigating a criminal case into signs of a crime under part 3 of article 263 of the RF Penal Code (violation of safety standards for traffic and operation of air transport entailing by negligence death of two or more people). The Chairman of the Russia’s Investigative Committee, who is now at the crash scene, is personally coordinating the actions of the investigating team.

According to investigators, on 17 November 2013, at 07:26 PM, boeing-737 flight 363, travelling from Moscow’s Domodedovo airport with 44 passengers and 6 crew members aboard crashed on landing and caught fire at the airport in Kazan. All people aboard were killed.

The investigation is looking into all reasons for the crash including a failure of machinery, fault of crew and weather conditions.

A large amount of work has to be done during this investigation. At present the investigators and criminologists are carrying on examining the crash scene of 200X300 meters. The video showing the trajectory of the plane crash has been seized from the CCTV system of the airport and studied in detail. The samples of fuel have been seized to check its quality. The investigators are also taking biological samples in order to run DNA tests to identify the victims. They are going to run a number of other complex analyses and question the witnesses and officials. They are also going to estimate timeliness, sufficiency and efficiency of oversight over the aircraft operator and completeness of flight safety measures. For that purpose all necessary documents have already been seized from the Tatarstan Airlines and the airport of departure.

At the same time the investigators are waiting for the report of the technical commission of the Interstate Aviation Committee, which will be carefully studied, filed into the case and will be taken into consideration along with other materials and documents. After the Interstate Aviation Committee has finished working at the scene, the Investigative Committee will run a comprehensive expert examination involving specialists, including those of Boeing company. Only after this examination it will be possible to make final conclusions about the causes of the Boeing-737 crash and guilt of any people.

Investigation is ongoing.
